An update from inside Becoming Love
Hey loves 👋🏽
Whew.
I’m gonna keep it real, the first two weeks of 2026 went from 0 to 100 real quick.
No easing in. No gentle stretch. Just right back to the regularly scheduled program, no chaser.
Now, we’re not trying to add to the doom-and-gloom narrative by rehashing what we all see in the news and on our feeds. The world is already screaming. But we’d be remiss not to name it: things are a little wild right now. In the streets and in people’s lives.
Even when we’re choosing to focus on the good, what’s happening is very real.
You feel it everywhere.
You hear it in conversations.
And whether we name it or not, it’s resting in our bodies.
That’s exactly why this work matters.
At The Becoming Love Project, we believe storytelling, screenwriting, and art aren’t luxuries, they’re tools. Ways to metabolize what we’re living through. Ways to imagine and create in a world we actually want to live in, which is so desperately needed now.
🪩 BECOMING LOVE NEWS
If you missed it, we launched a crowdfunding campaign on January 6 for our Youth Storytelling Program and y’all showed OUT.
We hit our first goal of $2,500 in four days, which means transportation and meals are covered for our cohort. That’s not small. That’s access and consistency. That’s young people being able to show up and express their creativity in powerful ways.
Here’s the work:
We’re teaching screenwriting and filmmaking to young people who have aged out of foster care, been impacted by it, or experienced housing instability.
Participants will write short films rooted in something they’ve lived through. From there, based on the themes that arise, we’re going to create and shoot a collaborative short film together.
Yes. A whole freaking film.
And this is where you come in.
By supporting this project, you’re not just helping make a movie. You’re helping a vulnerable group of young people do something many of them never imagined was possible, see their stories taken seriously, shaped with care, and brought to life with them at the center.
We also have an Executive Producer attached (👀) and can’t wait to tell you more. But in the meantime, we’re building toward our next phase.
🎯 Our current goal is $4,500, which goes directly toward production, helping us move from development into actually bringing this film to life.

The event is free, with a $10 suggested donation.
We’ll announce the location in February.
